PLOT 005 / GAMING
Stadia
2019–2023
Confirmed discontinued
The cloud has left the game.
One flower per grave, per visitor, per UTC day. A gesture, never a transaction.
01 / A FORMER LIFE
There was a place.
Stadia promised a game console without the console. The game ran far away, while a controller and a screen made it feel close. Its players explored a version of the future where the largest part of a game lived somewhere they could never visit.
It became a visible experiment in consumer cloud gaming. Its closure also made a practical question unavoidable: what happens to a library when the machine that runs it belongs to someone else?

Then came the ending.
Google said the service had not gained the user traction it expected. The company announced refunds for eligible hardware and game purchases.
This grave marks the consumer Stadia streaming service. It does not imply that cloud gaming, Google, or the controller hardware ceased to exist.
