One flower per grave, per visitor, per UTC day. A gesture, never a transaction.

01 / A FORMER LIFE

There was a place.

Skype made distance feel a little less expensive. Its ringing window brought family, friends, and collaborators into the same conversation across borders. The ritual included a headset, a familiar sound, and the inevitable question about whether the microphone was working.

It helped make internet calling an ordinary part of daily life. Before a video meeting was a calendar default, a Skype call was often a deliberate little reunion.

02 / THE DEATH RECORD

Then came the ending.

Microsoft retired consumer Skype as it focused its consumer communications offering on Teams Free.

Consumer Skype retired on May 5, 2025. Skype for Business was excluded from that announcement; some paid calling features continued during a transition.
