PLOT 004 / SOCIAL

Google+

2011–2019

Confirmed discontinued

Your circles grew quiet.
1 flower left

One flower per grave, per visitor, per UTC day. A gesture, never a transaction.

01 / A FORMER LIFE

There was a place.

Google+ arranged a social life into circles. Friends, colleagues, enthusiasts, and strangers could belong to different rooms. Inside those rooms, people shared photographs, argued about hobbies, and built small communities.

The consumer network is remembered for its Circles model and the communities people made within it. A service can struggle at scale and still matter enormously to the people who found their corner there.

This historical address may now redirect or belong to another service.

02 / THE DEATH RECORD

Then came the ending.

Google accelerated the consumer shutdown following a software bug affecting profile data access. The company had already announced plans to sunset the consumer service.

This memorial covers consumer Google+, not Google Accounts or other Google products. Enterprise successors followed their own timelines.

THE SMALL THINGS THAT REMAIN

The visitors’ book is quiet. Your memory could be the first.
